Ship in a stormy sea by Karbo Ship in a stormy sea by Karbo
Something a little different :D
I have little experience when it comes to designing vehicles or machines but a friend got me to try some and I had a lot of fun with it :)
So I went ahead and tried to come up with some design for Felaryan boats . Its role is not really defined and it doesn't carry weapons either at this point. the part in the middle is designed for the crew to be able to defend itself and move around without something catching them.
I'm basically just playing a bit with the shape to come up with something at this point. Maybe later it will become more defined :3

Okay I usually just come here to troll but this is actually pretty awesome. Its got a very sharky look to it and I get the feeling (Lets play "make random assumptions off of wandering thoughts"! Yay!) that its part submarine or something...

It's not that stormy, the sea seems quiet calm, okay perhaps there is a bit wind and some clouds but nothing to worry about...
Is there anything wrong with the sails? or is it some kind of a problem of perspective? The sail on the bug is blown up frontwards, the one on the heck backwards, the slighly smaller one in the middle is blown up frontwards, but the sail behind it isn't that much, but this would take nearly all wind from blowning into the other...
Why are there two sails in the middle on the same mast?

But despite that all, impresing picture!

Almost looks like an ironclad ship.

At the very least, this is a good point to start with. It would be a good idea to think of the ones who will be using it. What will they be facing? What needs would have to be met for them to have a safe journey to their intended destination. Look at typical craft of that type and then make your changes from there. I look forward to seeing what kind of ships and such you come up with.

I like how organic it looks, even though it gives off a very mechanical vibe.

That's one badass ship!

I like how solid and tank-like it looks. In a world like Felarya, boats would need to be very resilient to... well... being picked up and shaken around XD

Hi. Your ship looks amazing! If you're happy with how this one is, then I'd love to try and make a 3D version of it. :)

Very awesome! It looks even better! Now can you try doing some land vehicles?
Karbo Featured By Owner Oct 4, 2013  Professional Digital Artist
I'll definitely try at some points yes :)

Awesome! ^_^ Still I have to say I am going to do a version of one of these soon as I find a pirate or sailor OC who can avoid being eaten! XD

I really like the design of this ship. It look very menacing. By the way, am I the only one seeing some kind of dragon wing just to the right of the red flag?

Okay, you can draw ships now.

Looks nice by the way.

Awesome! its great to see the details of Felaryan architecture of the smaller races. Your considerations for a ship that would be viable in Felarya's oceans of giant predators are very good. The shielded topside and the spikes down the midsection are sure to give them more of a fighting chance than using the typical open top ships we use on earth completely unguarded to the approach of a giant hand =p

And that large fin like structure on the side near the back is a really genius way to prevent some giant humanoid or creature from tipping them over,  Its A really well thought out design! Its a really awesome success at something so different from your usual work :)

love this ship, and love the colors. everything is so grey, but then you have the yellow light in the ship lamps :)
This kinda looks like a fast scouting ship to me :) fast in, fast out. undiscovered!
shirone Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2013
This is an awesome ship design! Does the ship have a name yet? In any case, very good job on this work
Karbo Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2013  Professional Digital Artist

Nope no name yet ^^
MeAmArt Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2013
for some reason I cant help but think that it is some sort of desert land boat thingy.
SimonLorimer Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2013  Hobbyist
I never thought I'd see the day when you'd submit something to the 'Vehicular Graphics' subgroup XD This is beautiful though - it's clear a lot of thought has gone into its design! It's wonderfully utilitarian without any unnecessary frills or features and looks all the more beautiful for it :) The heavy atmosphere and low angle of the shot also seems to indicate some sort of aquatic ambush... :D Lovely work, a refreshing change of pace!
PrinnyDood-Abides Featured By Owner Sep 14, 2013
Ohh, very interesting!  I love the design of the ship, especially the middle section.  It's looks really rather spiky and good for discouraging anyone to try nomming on it.  Even Anko might hesitate a moment before slinking her tongue at that.  ;P

Awsome ship dude ! It is one of the best ships ive seen so far, and I know my ships.
Inquisitor-Hein Featured By Owner Sep 13, 2013
I really like that ship. The front "ram" gives it an agressive look, yet the overall round shape gives it some "slow and comfortable" look.
Also, the deviation from the normal ship shape with a flat deck is really unique. Together with the mentioned combination of "agressive" and "harmless" elements it ends up as something very different from traditional sailing ships, yet, it somehow also keeps an archetypical sailing shp look.
Again: I REALLY like this one :)
Andruril93 Featured By Owner Sep 13, 2013  Hobbyist General Artist
I like this so far.  Looks very original.  Especially with the cage-like design in the middle.  Well done.
Pendragon9 Featured By Owner Sep 13, 2013
Ooh, I love the ribcage design. It really gives a good defensive perimeter to the crew.
AndurilWielder Featured By Owner Sep 12, 2013  Hobbyist
I think the sails would make it easier for the preds to capsize the ship. The extra protection around the hull looks nice, and useful, but if the effort to protect it is going to be taken fully, then something needs to be done about the sails sticking straight up out of the boat like that. Maybe put them somewhere else? Perhaps build an exterior larger shell with a bunch of sails between that layer and the inner one? That would make the ship a lot bigger, would be harder to grab, and any large sea creature would cause it to have more of a "roll" effect, than a "capsize and sink" effect. Dunno if I'm explaining this correctly, but there's my input.

Good job on the art tho. Looks neat.
