A commission picture made for Like many fairies, Soinee love books, although more of the magical type in her case. And she likes to spend some time in her personal cave in order to read. doesn't it looks cozy ? :3 I had fun with the glowing magical effects here ^^
Neat. It's pretty clear that you're paying attention to those flaws you said earlier that you wanted to work on. She looks a bit more alive than your usual fare. I think it's the mouth and posture in specific, with those slightly open lips as though she's mouthing the words as she read them, and with her casual leaning against her...pillow(?) signifying that she's just reading for pleasure. Add to that the little wine glass next to her, and you know she's just having a pleasant evening. Two things I would suggest in a situation like this in the future would be to have the character's head tilted forward more to show how intent they are on the object of their fascination. Most people tend to read in that position. Also, instead of drawing both knees in the air, having one splayed to the side would increase the casual nature of her posture.
I guess since I'm doing a formal critique, I ought to explain why I gave the ratings I did. On "vision," I gave four and a half stars because the setting, content, mood, and atmosphere are excellent, but I didn't give it a perfect score because, as discussed earlier, you can do better on the human element. On originality, I gave four stars. Most of that is carried entirely by the fact that you created Felarya. The subject matter in this particular picture, however, is a pretty standard "Nerd character reading books" scenario. Props for not giving her glasses, though. Technique I gave a five out of five because you're still leaps and bounds ahead of me and I don't think I'm qualified to comment on this much. I see a couple things I can mention, like the shading technique looking flat, but I can't be certain that's unintentional, especially since you've expressed interest in a painting style in the past, which tends to lend itself to flatness in favor of creating mood. So if we're going to downgrade this score, you're going to have to do it yourself. Impact I also gave four and half stars because the world is very clear here. The magical effects on the books' text and the floating book at her side really stand out to mark this as "fantasy," even if the fairy herself isn't distinguishing herself as particularly fairylike. Likewise, the surrounding area really pops out as a hollow in a tree or a cave or something, again immersing the viewer in the world you've created.
So yeah. Overall, a fine job. I hope I gave you a couple things you can think about and focus on in future creations.
I was just saying the other day that I longed for the days when you did a pic in all one color tone. X3 This comes close to the way you used to tone something out in one color but is so expressive and well done. Picking any one detail would be a silly thing but I like the way you did the lighting best. It's nice to see it coming from the the top of the art and onto the subject it makes those shining effects on her wings and illuminates her body in way that's very soft and appealing. Very good good man!
